Annual Awards for this year will be in March 2024 and date and venue will be confirmed shortly.

The sporting year is defined as the year prior to year of the Awards Ceremony (January – December 2024). The closing date for nominations is Friday 14th February 2025.

The following categories are available for nomination:

Nomination Criteria

Any individual nominated must be resident in Forth Valley (Stirling, Clackmannanshire, Falkirk) or a member of a club affiliated to Forth Valley Disability Sport. Clubs nominated must be affiliated to Forth Valley Disability Sport.

The sporting year is defined as the year prior to year of the Awards Ceremony (January – December 2024).

The closing date for nominations is Friday 14th February 2025.

The award winners and shortlisted nominations will be made at the discretion of the awards selection panel and their decision will be final.

Coach Awards

Community Coach of the Year – Participation

Coach of the Year will be awarded to the coach who, by using an athlete centred approach has:

  • supporting the development of athletes or teams
  • significantly increased the sporting opportunities available and participation levels within their community
  • created a safe and enjoyable environment for participation

Community Coach of the Year – Development

Coach of the Year will be awarded to the coach who, by using an athlete centred approach has been responsible for:

  • identifying and nurturing talent
  • ensured that athletes or teams with emerging talent have made an impact at district, regional or national level

Volunteer Awards

Angus Whyte Volunteer of the Year

This award will be made to a volunteer who has made an outstanding contribution to their club or community, in recognition of their commitment this year. They will have:

  • worked in any aspect of their club or community. Without them the club or community would not be the same
  • given up a substantial amount of time to volunteer in sport or physical activity
  • been an inspiration and positive role model for participants and peers

Young Volunteer of the Year

This award will be made to a volunteer aged 25 years or younger who has made an outstanding contribution to their club or community, in recognition of their commitment this year. They will have:

  • worked in any aspect of their club or community. Without them the club or community would not be the same
  • given up a substantial amount of time to volunteer in sport
  • been an inspiration and positive role model for participants and peers

Athlete Awards

The Blair Forbes Junior Sports Person of the Year

This award will recognise the young sports person with a disability aged 18 years and under who has excelled in any sport in the last year.

Senior Sports Person on the Year

This award will recognise the sports person with a disability over the age of 18 years who has excelled in any sport in the last year.

Team Awards

Team of the Year

This award is for any school, club or branch team who has excelled in any sport in the last year.

Club Award

Club of the Year

The club that will receive this award will have demonstrated that:

  • they have significantly increased the sporting opportunities available and participation levels
  • they have increased the competition opportunities available to their athletes with disabilities
  • they have provided their volunteers and coaches with training opportunities
  • they have identified and nurtured athletes to allow them to further develop

Other Awards

The David Lawrie Services to Sport Award

This award recognises individuals who have played an active role in the development of Forth Valley Disability Sport in any capacity whatsoever.
Length of service as an SDS volunteer is an aspect that will be taken into consideration in determining appropriate recipients.

Achievement Award for Participation

This will be awarded to anyone with a disability who has shown exceptional qualities of determination, positive attitude and commitment to physical activity in a non-competitive environment over the past year.

Achievement Award for Sport

This will be awarded to any sportsperson who has been involved in disability sport for over two years and has demonstrated exceptional qualities of sportsmanship, determination, commitment, leadership, achievement that single him/her out from the others during the past year.

Newcomer of the Year

This will be awarded to any sportsperson who has been involved in a specific disability sport for less than two years and has demonstrated exceptional qualities of sportsmanship, determination, commitment, leadership, achievement that single him/her out from the others during the past year.
